20. People Reprise III: “you’re possessed”

This is the third and final Sweeney Ballad–style interlude. It functions as a runway into what comes next.  No release yet, just acceleration. The layering of “that is not enough” slowly overtakes Vincent’s internal landscape, crowding out everything else until there’s no room left to breathe.

We begin in E and slide down to C. I’ve always loved downward modulations during rising action. There’s something deeply wrong about the floor dropping out while the pressure keeps building and that wrongness felt exactly right here.
